ZOE WILLEY

“GREEN SPACE”

Tuesday 20th May 2025 - Monday 23rd June 2025

Zoe Willey is an emerging artist working at the intersection of impressionism and realism. An intention to always capture the intangible ‘essence’ of a subject fundamentally informs her practice. This is a philosophy learnt from portraiture which now deeply influences her landscape and still life works. Zoe’s landscapes often explore the relationship between built and natural environments, interwoven with themes of nostalgia and identity. Her still life works seek to elevate the mundane, highlighting an understated beauty found within small scenes and quiet moments.

‘Green Space’ is an exploration of junctures between nature and the suburban, amalgamating both still life and landscape works into a capsule of the artist’s broader practice. House portraits depict Queenslanders and beach shacks nestled harmoniously amongst lush foliage; straight lines are juxtaposed against expressive painterly marks. Glass vessels display pared back floral arrangements, house plants are nestled within chinoiserie and concrete pots, and propagations are presented in an assortment of repurposed bottles. The ongoing ‘Pocket Forest’ series provides portals into a subtropical garden. This body of work ultimately seeks to promote and celebrate the integration of greenery into domestic spheres and suburban landscapes.
